Clingmans Dome in Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Misty mountain views in the Smokies

Clingmans Dome is the highest point in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, sitting at 6,643 feet above sea level on the Tennessee-North Carolina border. On a clear day, the 360-degree views from the observation tower stretch over 100 miles. It's the highest point in Tennessee and the third-highest peak in the eastern US.

Getting There

Drive along Clingmans Dome Road (off Newfound Gap Road/US-441) for 7 miles. The road is open seasonally from April to November and ends at a large parking area. From there, the Clingmans Dome Trail leads 0.5 miles up to the summit's observation tower. It's short but steep and fully paved.
