A Complete Guide to Lonesome Pine Overlook in Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Lonesome Pine Overlook is a quieter alternative to the Smokies' most crowded viewpoints. Accessed via the Twentymile Trail system near the North Carolina side of the park, it's a 6-mile round-trip hike with 1,500 feet of elevation gain that rewards you with panoramic ridge views and very few other hikers.
Getting There
From Cherokee, NC, drive about 22 miles north on US-441, then follow signs to Twentymile Ranger Station. From Gatlinburg, head south on Newfound Gap Road for about 25 miles. Parking is available at Twentymile Ranger Station — spots are limited, so arrive early.
